John L. Foster, 90, of Nebraska City, formerly of Union, died Nov. 6, 2012, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. He was born on Aug. 27, 1922, in Omaha to Reuben and Nora May (Larson) Foster.
On Aug. 5, 1951, John married Rose Ann Fey at the Wyoming Methodist Church near Nebraska City. He farmed near Union. He loved to compete in the state and national hand corn-husking contests.
John was a long time member of the Union United Methodist Church, until he transferred to the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City this past year. He also served on the Cass County District #12 School Board, Otoe County Consolidated Rural Water District #1 Board and the East Union Cemetery Board. He was a Farm Bureau member and was a past 4-H leader in Otoe County.
John lived on the family farm until his health required him to move into the Ambassador in August of 2001.
He was preceded by wife Rose Ann on April 26, 2004; sisters Dorothy Richards, Louise Pate and Edith Laviolette; and brother Art Foster.
He is survived by son Dan Foster and wife Terry of Union; daughters Linda Halstead and husband Bryce of Kimball and Susan Bottcher and husband Larry of Talmage; granddaughters Holly Foster of Lincoln, Laura (Halstead) Gaffney and husband Brian of Portland, Ore., Cheryl (Halstead) Bohlender and husband Teldon of Holyoke, Colo., and Megan Bottcher of Talmage; grandsons Mark Halstead and wife Ashley of Dix and Nathan Foster of Union; three great grandchildren; brother-in-law Wilber Fey Jr. and wife Marlene of Nebraska City; sister-in-law Dorothy Todd of Omaha; other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be Thursday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Peterson Mortuary.
Funeral service will be Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at the Peterson Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City. Terry Weible will officiate the service, with burial to follow at the East Union Cemetery near Union.
The family wishes memorials to go towards an outdoor bench that will be placed at the Ambassador-Nebraska City.
