Thomas Jerome Maher, 81, died Oct. 22, 2012 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was born Oct. 1, 1931 in Imogene, Iowa, to Thomas Patrick and Catherine M. (Sweeney) Maher. Tom grew up and attended school in Imogene. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. On July 10, 1956 he married Ruby Charlene Lincoln in Shenandoah.
Tom built a house and moved to the Gravity area in 1956. He farmed for over 55 years and worked for 27 years at the Bedford Post Office. Tom was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah. He was also a member of the Gravity American Legion and the Gravity Fire Department where he held various offices for many years. He was a hard worker who liked to tinker and could fix or build anything. His true love was his family.
He was preceded by wife Ruby in February 2012; and four sisters, Evelyn, Myrtle, Mary and Patricia V.
Survivors include his children, Trent Maher of Ankeny, Iowa, Sheila Hahn and husband Myron of Nebraska City, and Patrick Maher and wife Megan of West Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brett Hahn, Brianne Maher, Riley Maher, Blake Maher; brother Pat Maher and Carol Lee Hamblin of Imogene; sisters-in-law Doris Moore of Eugene, Ore., and Alice Lincoln of Llano, Texas; brother-in-law Kenneth Leon Lincoln of Overland Park, Kan.; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Mass was held Saturday, Oct. 27, at Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. There will be a private burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Imogene at a later date.
