  • Sampson Construction served hotdogs and hamburgers at the Lourdes school construction site Friday to recognize the site's safety record.
Supervisor Bryce Luff of Unadilla said there was a minor injury when the job first started, but the site has been injury free for the past 30,000 work hours.
Completed are the school's basement wall, dirtwork, plumbing and 90 percent of the structural steel. Most of what Luff calls “high work” has also been completed.
The company, which has six offices in five states and over 100 work sites in current operation, selected the site as its best safety site for September.
Luff credited the 57 workers on the site Friday and the subcontractors for the achievement.
Sampson Construction holds a job site orientation for employees and subcontractors, such as air and heating installers who recently arrived.
“It creates the objectives and expectations of all the trades to follow,” said Michael Hershey.
“It is especially critical because we are working at an occupied school,” he said. “It's not just raising a building from the ground, but raising that building near an occupied school.”
Safety Director Casey Lenners said Sampson Construction has four full-time safety directors and last year conducted 9,000 hours of safety training.
