City commissioners approved requests Oct. 15 for a haunted porch on First Corso and an outdoor movie showing near Central Avenue and Seventh Street.
John Wehling requested the city close and barricade First Corso between 15th and 16th streets on from 5 to 10 p.m. on Halloween evening.
He said closing the street the past two years has made it safer for the 500 children who visit Ron and Candy Allgood's haunted porch.
Commissioners also approved using the “sunken” parking lot near Central Avenue and Seventh Street to show an outdoor movie. People are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs for a 7:30 p.m. showtime of a scary classic.
Commissioners also considered a fall clean-up with free drop off at the solid waste transfer station. Nov. 3-10. The city will provide staff at the transfer station for four of the six days.
Mayor Jack Hobbie appointed Kirby Bohl to the planning commission for a three-year term. Rose Ralstin was re-appointed to the board of appeals.
The city released a lien on property near 402 Ninth Ave. A house on the property was demolished in 2004 and the city has been paid for the expense.
