The running skills of quarterback Aaron Miller keyed a late fourth quarter drive as the Lourdes football team topped Johnson-Brock 26-20 and secured a position in the Class D1 playoffs during action at Pioneer Field Thursday night.
Lourdes and Johnson-Brock traded the lead during action in the first two quarters.
The game went to halftime tied at 14-14.
Miller threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Gilson that had the Knights ahead 20-14 in the fourth quarter.
Johnson-Brock answered by launching a 42-yard drive capped by a 13-yard scoring pass and, after the subsequent kick off, Lourdes took over at its own five-yard line.
Considering the Knights' poor field position and scant time left on the fourth quarter clock, it looked like the game might be headed to overtime. Lourdes further complicated its march by committing penalties early in the drive, but the Knights would not be denied.
Miller had several productive rushes and complemented those with an 11-yard pass to Clancy Young.
It all came down to a fourth down play inside the Johnson-Brock five-yard line with three seconds left to go in the game.
Miller rushed into the end zone on the final play of regulation thus powering the Knights to a 26-20 win and an appearance in the post season.
With the win, the Knights advanced their season mark to 5-3, while Johnson-Brock fell to 2-6.
