  • Richard “Dick” Teigi Miyoshi, 86, of Nebraska City died at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth Oct. 16, 2012. He was born July 31, 1926 at North Platte to Takihiko and Takeyo (Shiroyama) Miyoshi. He married Rosemary G. Beers Oct. 28, 1949 at Council Bluffs.

  • Richard “Dick” Teigi Miyoshi, 86, of Nebraska City died at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth Oct. 16, 2012. He was born July 31, 1926 at North Platte to Takihiko and Takeyo (Shiroyama) Miyoshi.    He married Rosemary G. Beers Oct. 28, 1949 at Council Bluffs.
    He is survived by sons John Miyoshi and wife Carol of Wahoo, Dan Miyoshi of Harrisonburg, Va., and Kelly Miyoshi and wife Carmen of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; daughters Pam Smith and husband Harry of Salina, Kan., Ree Shirley and husband Matthew of Nebraska City, and Laura Laing of North Reading, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Kathrine, Sara, Alice and Patricia; many other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded by his wife Oct. 23, 2001; brothers Edward, Miles and Alfred; sister-in-law Dorothy; brothers-in-law Kei and Kie; and son-in-law John Laing.
    He moved to Nebraska City in 1960. He formerly worked in the UNL Horticulture Department; owned and operated the Catron – Miyoshi Orchard and worked in the restaurant business for several years and served as manager of the Nebraska City Elks Lodge and Steinhart Lodge.  He was also formerly employed by the Union Insurance Company and Old Republic Insurance Company.  
    Dick was a member of the St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Western Star Lodge No. 2, A.F. & A.M.; Queen Esther Chapter No. 1, O.E.S.; and American Legion Post No. 8.  He was a former member of the Arbor Shrine Club, Nebraska City Elks Lodge and the Nebraska State Horticulture Society.  
    Dick loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.  He also coached Legion Baseball.
    He served in the U.S. Army.
    Memorial services are at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the Nebraska Masonic Home, 1300 D St. in Plattsmouth.
    Graveside services are at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
    Rev. Joel Lundak will officiate. Urnbearer will be Josh Shirley.
    Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by an Eastern Star Service.  The family will greet friends from 6-8:30 p.m.  There will be no viewing.
    Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Masonic Home.
