  • Barbara F. Allen, 78, of Sidney, Iowa, died Oct. 15, 2012 at the Ambassador in Sidney. She was born on Feb. 11, 1934 in Shambaugh, Iowa, to James H. and Ona L. (Watson) Brownfield.

  • Barbara F. Allen, 78, of Sidney, Iowa, died Oct. 15, 2012 at the Ambassador in Sidney. She was born on Feb. 11, 1934 in Shambaugh, Iowa, to James H. and Ona L. (Watson) Brownfield.
    Her family lived in Glenwood, Iowa, for a short time and then moved to Sidney in the 1940’s. She graduated from Sidney High School mid-term with the class of 1952. She married William Bryce “Red” Allen on Jan. 26, 1952 in Sidney.
    Barbara worked at Mount Arbor Nursery and the Egg Plant in Malvern, Iowa, then at American Meter Company in Nebraska City from 1962 until her retirement after 34 years in 1986.
    She enjoyed  reading, fishing, collecting bells, singing and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching Nebraska Football and NASCAR Racing. She attended the Daytona 500 18 years.
    She attended the Church of Christ in Sidney and Riverton and the Congregational Church in Farragut.
    She is survived by husband William “Red” Allen of Sidney; children William M. “Albert” Allen and wife Cheryl of Sidney and Patricia Sue Hammons and husband Mike of Hamburg; grandchildren Stefanie Hammons of Hamburg, Brandon Hammons and wife Kim of Sidney, and Daphne Barrett and husband Jon of Hamburg; great-grandchildren Ashley, Caleb, Kali, Storm and Madison; great-great grandson Zakkery; sister Nina Stoner and husband Byron of Shenandoah; brother Orlen “Bud” Brownfield and wife Shirley of Sidney; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
    She was preceded by brother James Brownfield in 1966 and  son Robert Kevin Allen in 1980.
    Funeral services are Thursday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Sidney with Pastor Robert Milliken officiating. Burial will follow in the Sidney Cemetery.
    The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg.
    Memorials may be given to the Sidney Senior Citizens Center.
