Hayward elementary school greeted author David Biedrzycki with a tunnel walk Wednesday and a read aloud event with parents on Tuesday.

David Biedrzycki, author and illustrator, gave presentations Oct. 16 and 17 at Northside and Hayward elementary schools. He explained how he was drawing all of the time as a child in Pennsylvania and it led him to attend Kutztown State University. He majored in painting, but said an art show featuring America’s best illustrators convinced him illustrations would be his life’s work. He started out working for newspapers and magazines and later began writing and illustrating his own books. His works include Me and My Dragon, Ace Lacewing: Bug Detective and Who Will Guide My Sleigh Tonight? These days you can find Biedrzycki in his studio at home or out visting over 70 school per year. He loves school visits. “It’s fun to visit different places of the country and talk to aspiring authors and illustrators,” he said. Biedrzycki will bring his unique writing style to all students as he works directly with students. Using his computer, he brings his illustrations to life. With his interactive presentation style, students will become a part of the writing process. Biedrzycki also participated with parents at Hayward’s Read Aloud Night. Partners in Education sponsored the event.
