Mary Jo (Harrison) Swarts, 87, died Oct. 4, 2012, at home in Lincoln. She was born Jan. 16, 1925 in Lincoln to Joe and Jo Harrison.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Lincoln Northeast High School and remembered voting on the school colors and mascot still used to this day.
Mary Jo began working full time as a secretary at Western Electric in Lincoln and retired after 35 years as a secretary at Goodyear in Lincoln.
She enjoyed traveling, and often said having a career was a way to fulfill that dream. She and her husband, Boyd, vacationed in Hawaii, Europe, Mexico, Canada, and across the United States. They had a motor home and loved their camping clubs. They purchased a winter home in Plant City, Fla.
As they grew older, they lived with their son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Teri Swarts, who cared for them as their health failed.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband in 2008.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy Swarts, Palmyra, Joe and Teri Swarts, Lincoln, Monte and Terri Swarts, Underwood, Minn., and Jon Swarts, Battle Lake, Minn.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be 6:30-10 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Parker's Smokehouse in Ashland.
Roper and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials in Mary Jo’s name may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
