The Nebraska City softball team fell in first round action of the district tournament at Beatrice, but rebounded in game two on Thursday.

The Pioneers, which lost 8-0 against the Orange, came back with a 6-5 win over Auburn.

Nebraska City's triumph over Auburn avenged a regular season loss to the Bulldogs.

The Pioneers' district tournament ended in its third game of Thursday as the Pioneers lost to Lincoln Pius X by a final of 13-2.

With a win against Lincoln Pius X Thursday night, the Pioneers would have advanced to play in a 10 a.m. game on Friday. A victory in the 10 a.m. game, plus subsequent wins in the 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. contests would have been required to send the Pioneers to the state tournament.

Crete is scheduled to play Beatrice at 10 a.m. Friday with the winner advancing to the 2 p.m. contest and having two chances to advance to the state tournament.
