  • Carl Bernard McAlexander, 92, of Sidney, Iowa, died at Fair Oaks in Shenandoah on Oct. 1, 2012. He was born May 26, 1920 at Percival, Iowa, to Riley F. and Ora E. (Paddock) McAlexander.

  • Carl Bernard McAlexander, 92, of Sidney, Iowa, died at Fair Oaks in Shenandoah on Oct. 1, 2012. He was born May 26, 1920 at Percival, Iowa, to Riley F. and Ora E. (Paddock) McAlexander.
    He married Marjorie Wright Feb. 19, 1941.
    He is survived by sons Darrel McAlexander and wife Jackie and Jim McAlexander and wife Rose Ann, both of Sidney; grandchildren Jona Beck and husband Mike of Murray, Deana Policky and husband Bill of Columbus, Kevin McAlexander and wife Jennifer of Grinnell, Iowa, and Neil McAlexander and wife Pam of Ashland; eight great grandchildren, Joshua, Melissa and Matthew Beck, Benjamin and Rebecca Policky, and Isaiah, Parker and Ella McAlexander; brothers Eugene McAlexander and wife Esther and Kenneth McAlexander and wife Virginia of Beaconsfield, Iowa, and Dale McAlexander wife Joy of Humeston, Iowa; sisters-in-law Florine Bruce of Clinton, Iowa, and Phyllis Cerny and husband Dr. Charles of Zanesville, Ohio; brother-in-law Dr. Burman Wright and wife Jodi of Des Moines; special friend Jackie Nelson of Sidney; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
    He was preceded by wife Marjorie; sister  Naomi Johnston; brother Robert McAlexander; sister-in-law Lavara McAlexander; brothers-in-law Don Johnston and Wayne Bruce; and daughter-in-law  Josie McAlexander.
    He was a 1939 graduate of Thurman High School. He served in the Army. He was a farmer in Fremont County.
    He was a member of the Sidney School Board, served on various boards of the United Methodist Church, became a 4-H leader for the West Nishna Livestock Club and was a 50-year member of the Sidney American Legion.  Carl dearly treasured visiting with friends and family.  Over the years, he enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona.  Golf was an especially favorite pastime with the highlight of Carl hitting a hole-in-one in his eighties.  
    Funeral services are at  11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney with burial at Sidney Cemetery.
    Memorials are suggested to Sidney Library or Iowa Hospice.
    Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Sidney American Legion will provide military services.
