The Fourth Corso overlay project is nearly done, but many may have noticed that the 11th Street and Fourth Corso intersection has not been completed.
At last night's City Council meeting, the council approved supplemental construction engineering services for Fourth Corso from 11th Street to 13th Street. Olsson Associates, Inc., had done the engineering for the Fourth Corso project and will be paid $31,950 for additional engineering services for that portion of the road.
Work to finish the the project will cost about an additional $200,000, of which the city will have to pay 20 percent.
When work began on that area of Fourth Corso, it was discovered that the concrete under pavement was "unsuitable to asphalt over," said Public Works Director Dan Giittinger.
A new 8-inch concrete street will need to be created in those two blocks. Those two blocks will be completely closed for three to four weeks during construction.
Commissioner Jeff Crunk questioned why borings were not taken in those two key blocks. A follow up story will be in the News-Press.
