During the month of August 2012, twenty-six persons were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Roads.
- These 26 fatalities occurred in 24 crashes
- Seventeen of the 18 vehicle occupants killed were not using safety belts
- Three of the fatalities occurred on the Interstate, fourteen happened on non-Interstate highways, and nine took place on local roads
- Nineteen of the fatalities occurred in rural locations
- Nine of the fatalities were age 24 or younger
- Five of the fatalities were motorcyclists
- Three of the fatalities were pedestrians
- One of the fatal crashes was a collision with a train
- Six of the fatal crashes were head-on collisions
- There were 20 fatalities in August of 2011.
- Eighty-four of the 106 vehicle occupants killed during 2012 were not wearing safety belts.
