A pair of second quarter touchdowns gave the Graceland Yellowjackets a lead they would not relinquish Saturday in a 28-20 win over the Peru State football team at the Oak Bowl.
Peru State trailed by scores of 7-6 and 14-13 during the first quarter. After a 50-yard scoring drive put Graceland ahead 7-0, Peru State quarterback Bo Shepard ran 34 yards for a score. The point after failed.
Gradeland posted another scoring drive, this one covering 72 yards in a little over four mintues, but the Peru State team roared back as Sheppared connected with Jacob Grobe on a 55-yard pass that set up a short Ryan Ludlow touchdown run and a Levi Cockle point after kick that had the score at 14-13 with under a minute left in the first quarter.
Graceland’s second quarter scores had the Yellowjackets ahead 28-13 at the break.
Peru State drew to within one possesion during the third quarter. Ludlow runs of 24 and 33 yards, along with a personal foul penalty on Graceland, set up a six-yard Ludlow touchdown run. Cockle’s point after kick made it 28-20.
Graceland stopped two Peru State drives in the fourth quarter to cement an eight-point margin of victory.
Ludlow finished with 147 yards on 29 rush attempts and the Bobcats had 367 total yards and 257 rush yards compared to 355 total yards and 233 for Graceland.
