  • Two separate traffic stops over the weekend led to the seizure of 188 lbs of marijuana and the arrest of two men.
    Just before 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, a trooper stopped an eastbound 2006 Nissan Titan pickup for speeding, three miles west of Kearney on Interstate 80. The trooper was given consent to search the pickup. The search led to the seizure of 83 lbs. of marijuana. The marijuana was located in three suitcases in the cab and bed of the pickup.
    The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, Neftali Gutierrez Barajas, 26, a Mexican National, was lodged in the Buffalo County Detention Center on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
    On Friday, Sept. 28, a trooper stopped an eastbound 2012 Lincoln MKZ, for speeding on Interstate 76, four miles west of Big Springs. The stop occurred just before 10:30 a.m., (MDT). The trooper was given consent to search the car. The search led to the seizure of 105 lbs. of marijuana. The marijuana was located in two duffle bags in the trunk of the vehicle.
    The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, Sylvester Cage, 50, Plymouth, Minn., was lodged in the Duel County Jail on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
