Disabled American Veterans chapter delivers proceeds from annual "Forget Me Not" flower drive for Otoe County's needy veterans.

The Sam L. Kellogg Disabled American Veterans Chapter 35 delivered proceeds from its annual Forget Me Not flower sales to veteran service officers for distribution to needy veterans.

Larry Kennedy of the DAV said the funds delivered Friday to Otoe County Veteran Service Officer Marv Pesek are due to the generosity of people in Nebraska City, Syracuse and Otoe County.

Nebraska City mayors have annually declared Disabled American Veterans Forget-Me-Not Day and urged all citizens to support the DAV.

"The DAV offers free service to disabled veterans and their families in filing claims for government benefits and assists disabled veterans with medical, employment and other problems," said a mayor proclmation. "Our community has a continuing sense of gratitude to those disabled veterans who did so much to preserve the American way of life."

Chapter 35, which started in 1963, changed its name to honor Kellogg in November of 2011 and added Richardson County to Cass, Otoe and Johnson counties.

Contributions received during the Forget Me Not campaign are divided between the four counties.
