Ida Weddle, 95, of Nebraska City, died Sept. 23, 2012, at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. Ida Walker was born on June 20, 1917, near Brock to Charles William and Melvina Ann (Clack) Walker.
At the age of 10, the family moved to Peru. Ida graduated from the eighth grade from school district #4, from Peru Training School in 1936 and Peru State College with a bachelor of science degree in teaching. On June 20, 1945, she married Glen E. Weddle in Hiawatha. They moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska for one year, then moved back to Peru, where they made their home.
She taught school for 42 years in Nemaha, Otoe and Richardson counties: 1938 - 1940 Wood Siding, 1940 - 1942 Roosevelt, 1942 - 1944 Brush College, 1944 - 1945 Maplegrove - Nebraska City, 1945 - 1948 Kearney Hill, 1946 - 1948 Greggsport, 1949 - 1950 District 22, 1950-1955 Brownsville, 1955 - 1957 Happy Hollow, 1957 - 1963 Bratton Union, 1963 - 1968 Camp Creek, 1968 - 1974 Dist. #37 - Zion-Paul, 1975 - 1977 Dist. #41 and 1977 - 1982 Maplegrove Dist #29.
Ida was preceded in death by husband Glen in 1983, sisters Wilma King and Bertie Des Combes and nephew Leland Des Combes.
She is survived by nieces Mary Ann Holland and husband Jeff of Nebraska City and Betty Jo Ramage and husband Tom of Nebraska City; nephew Randy King of Adams; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; cousins and other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. until service time, 2 p.m., at Peterson Mortuary. Rev. Jerry Albright of the First Christian Church of Nebraska City will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lafayette Cemetery near Brock.
Pallbearers will be Ida’s great nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the choice of family.
