Wayne Bailey, 78, of Hamburg, died Sept. 15, 2012 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City. He was born on Dec. 31, 1933 in Riverton to Fred W. and Marion (Clary) Bailey.
He attended school in Riverton until his father’s death when he was seven years old. The family then moved to Hamburg. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1951.
He was employed by Douglas Oil Company, then he purchased the business in 1960 and operated the tank wagon and service station until his retirement in 1992.
On July 22, 1956, he married Beverly A. Harris.
He is survived by wife Beverly Bailey of Hamburg; children Michael Bailey of Yukon, Okla., and Sheila Bailey Burgess of Hollywood, Md.; grandchildren Matthew and Marcy Bailey of Oklahoma City; sister Mary Helen Clayton of Erin, Tenn.; a niece, nephews, other family and many friends.
In 1960 he joined the Hamburg Kiwanis Club and in 1973 he received an award for outstanding work in the club and community. After his retirement, he collected mugs, decanters, oil memorabilia and did much traveling.
He was preceded by sister Arlene Lybarger.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg with Pastors Gail and Donna Woods and Pastor James Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamburg Cemetery.
The family will greet friends Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the Hamburg Rescue or the Hamburg Public Library.
