  • Morning Jolt: Seal pup gets G-string caught around neck

  • In the news: Thanks to a man with an eagle eye, a seal pup in New Zealand is alive and well after getting a G-string thong stuck around its neck. The man, David Johson, saw the seal and alerted authorities, who had to hike and climb to reach the ailing animal. They were able to cut off the thong and save the pup. Marine ranger Jim Fyfe told the Otago Daily Times that people should be aware of what they’re throwing out: “If it forms a loop, cut it.”
    Happening today: Opening in theaters today are “The Words,” a PG-13 drama starring Bradley Cooper, Dennis Quaid, Olivia Wilde and Zoe Saldana; “The Cold Light of Day,”a PG-13 thriller starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver; and “Bachelorette,” an R comedy starring Kirsten Dunst.
    Opening bell: The Dow Jones opened at 13,292.00 after finishing up 244.52 points Thursday.
