Firefighters and farmers benefited from a favorable wind Thursday afternoon after a corn stubble field ignited south of Dunbar.
The wind help contain the fast-spreading fire by blowing flames away from the larger portion of the section and against Road K.
Farmer Dean Neels credits neighboring farmers Don Schroeder and Pete Kreifels for bringing tractors with discs and rippers to create fire lines. Firefighters from Dunbar, Talmage and Nebraska City responded.
Neels said this summer's drought is increasing the fire danger in fields compared to recent year.
