A Huff N Puff garden tractor pull is new to the list of activities for the AppleJack Festival.

Randall Simon of Brock asked city commissioners on Aug. 20 to grade a dirt track about 20 feet wide and 200 feet long near 2214 S. 11th St. for the event on Sunday, Sept. 16.

Simon said the Huff N Puff Garden Tractor Pull Association is sponsoring the event on an open field near Watkins True Value.

Simon said a recent Huff N Puff event at Tecumseh had 75 people attending for the four to five hour event. He said he expects 30 to 40 participants at Nebraska City with about 70 pulls.

City Administrator Joe Johnson said the established rate for a grader is $85 an hour and Simon asked the city to waive the fee.

Street Commissioner Dean Handy said it sounds like a good even for the city.

Finance Commissioner Mark Mercer said he would support waiving the fee if the event is free to spectators and it brings people into town.

Public Works Commissioner Brett Gay said the city uses it equipment for other AppleJack purposes. “We want to have as many event as possible,” he said.

The city agreed to waive the fee after Simon said there will be places available for parking on the grounds.
