Patsy Lou (Ham) Hemje, 74, died Aug. 13, 2012 in Syracuse. Pat was born Oct. 31, 1937 to Ernest and Blanche Ham at Clay Center.
She was baptized and confirmed. She lived her childhood on a farm near Saronville. She graduated from Sutton High School, Cottey College, and Kearney State College. She received a master’s degree from Doane College.
Pat met her husband, Don, at Kearney State. They were married Aug. 10, 1958. They lived in Lexington, Dorrance, Kan., and Byron, Neb., where they taught school. In 1968 they moved to Syracuse. She taught in the Syracuse schools for 27 years.
Pat enjoyed being around children. Her life was devoted to her family and church. She served her church as a Sunday school teacher, circle member, and on the church council.
She is survived by husband Don Hemje of Syracuse; sons Craig and Tammi Hemje of Syracuse and Clark and Amy Hemje of Unadilla; grandchildren Nathan and Aaron Hemje of Syracuse; sisters Jean Driewer of Aurora and Shirley Van Gronigen and husband Rich of Sutton; brother Howard Ham of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by daughter Jodi and niece Kathy.
Funeral services were Aug. 18 at the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse. Private family burial will be at a later time.
Family suggests memorials to the Luther Memorial Church or Good Samaritan Society - Syracuse.
