Ruby (Johnson) Spiegel, 90, of rural Watson, Mo., died July 31, 2012 at her home. Ruby Barlowe Johnson Spiegel was born in Emporia, Va., on Feb. 24, 1922 to Charles Maynard and Martha Gertrude (Caish) Barlowe.
She attended schools in Lawrenceville, Va., and pre-nursing at Farmville State Teachers College. She received her R.N. education at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va., graduating in 1943.
She married Frederic Scott Johnson of Hamburg on Feb. 21, 1943.
Ruby and Fred lived in California and Washington in 1944 and 1945 and returned to Iowa in the spring of 1946.
Her part-time nursing progressed to full time until her retirement in 1982.
After her husband Fred’s death on Feb. 22, 1973, she later married Richard Spiegel on March 13, 1982.
She is survived by husband Richard Spiegel of rural Watson; daughter Pat Sloop of Hamburg; son Terry Johnson and wife Christy of Greeley, Colo.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister Polly Roche of Newport News, Va.; three nieces and many friends.
Funeral services are Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Trinity Church in Hamburg with Pastor Dan Voigt officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hamburg Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the United Trinity Church or the Hamburg Rescue.
