  • Larry Kruger, 82, of Atchison, Kan., unexpectedly died July 14, 2012, at his home. He was born on March 18, 1930, in Unadilla to Ferdinand Lawrence and Vea (Sugden) Kruger.

  • Larry Kruger, 82, of Atchison, Kan., unexpectedly died July 14, 2012, at his home. He was born on March 18, 1930, in Unadilla to Ferdinand Lawrence and Vea (Sugden) Kruger.
     
    He graduated from Nebraska City High School. He had worked as a meat cutter for Safeway, an insurance agent for Prudential Life Insurance, and owned and operated Countryside Home Sales in Atchison for over 40 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, had served as a past president of the board of directors, was an original member of the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Board, was on the Finance Committee of the church, and attended TEAM Classes. He was also a former member of the Sabetha Volunteer Fire Department, Lions Club, Realtors Association, Atchison YMCA, Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, and Bellevue and Pineview country clubs. He enjoyed playing golf, volleyball, basketball, handball, and all sports. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in events.
     
    Larry married Mildred Bergmann on Dec. 7, 1953, in Johnson.
     
    He is survived by his wife,  Mildred; daughters  Sue (Bradley) Sherffius, Atchison, Kan., Cheryl (Jeff) Kroll, Tomball, Texas, and Karrie (Terry) Harrington, Oklahoma City, Okla.; daughter-in-law Dianna Kruger, Atchison; brothers John Kruger, Nebraska City, and Roger Kruger, Atchison; sisters Ruth Fortney, Richardson, Texas, Joyce Hammons, Weeping Water, and Karen Brannon, Nehawka; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
     
    He was preceded by son Caddy Kruger (2004) and two brothers, Gary and Tom Kruger.  
     
                       
    Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18,  at the Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.
    Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
