After posting three runs in the opening inning, Nebraska City added a run in the third frame and looked to be in good shape during Tuesday’s game against Bellevue East.
That all changed in the bottom of the third as the homestanding Chieftains posted 11 runs and never looked back en route to a 10-run victory.
“We walked the first two batters in the third and then had an error on a bunt and that really opened the flood gates,” said Coach Bales. “We have to learn to control those types of innings and get out with minimal damage if we want to become a good team. It's happened in each of our three losses where we give up a big inning with walks and errors and it's been the difference in the games.”
Nebraska City, 1-3, was scheduled to return to action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Wahoo and at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Yutan.
The Pioneers will return home for a 4:30 p.m. Monday game against Seward and a 5 p.m. Tuesday game against Omaha Skutt.
