    In July, all 70,000 SNAP (formerly food stamps) customers were mailed a PIN number and asked to pick their own user ID and password and create their personal online account so they can view the benefits inquiry information.
    "This is the next step in making ACCESSNebraska more user-friendly," said Todd Reckling, director of the Division of Children and Family Services.  "It takes just three easy steps to sign up for this new feature:  Create a new account; choose three security questions and provide answers for them; and validate the account.  The accounts use secured websites and are similar to ones created for online banking.  People can log on to their account and get their personal information when it's convenient for them."  
    The Benefits Inquiry screen is for information only.  Information on the account can't be changed through this option.
    Customers now have two options that are available 24 hours a day to check the status of a case and benefits.  In addition to the online Benefits Inquiry, the Automated Voice Response unit is available at 1-800-383-4278 or (402) 323-7455 in Lincoln.
    Over 4,000 clients have already created User IDs, and Reckling expects that number to increase as more PIN numbers are sent out.
    On September 16 a PIN number will be mailed to Medicaid recipients. On October 15, a PIN number will be mailed to other economic assistance recipients (people receiving Aid to the Aged, Blind and Disabled, child care, Aid to Dependent Children, etc.).  New cases will be assigned a PIN number at the time the application is logged into the DHHS N-FOCUS computer system. New customers who haven't received a PIN number by October 20 can contact their local DHHS office to have one issued.
