Defensive struggles led to a 7-1 loss for the Nebraska City girls' soccer team Tuesday night at Beatrice.

Beatrice jumped to a 3-0 lead in the match.

Rachel Smetana blasted a shot into goal from 30 yards out to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Pioneers were never able to draw closer.

The contest was Nebraska City's first without the services of goaltender Devin Jones, who suffered a season-ending injury during last weekend's Crete Invite.
