A 20-year-old Nebraska City man was taken to St. Mary’s Community Hospital Tuesday afternoon for minor injuries suffered when his car left the OPPD Road south.

A construction crew working near K and 68 roads saw a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee wobble as it crossed over a cable guardrail and plunge down an embankment.

A thicket of trees and shrubs slowed the Jeep and hid it from view in all directions.

The driver, Ricardo Duran Valquier, may have kicked out the broken glass of the windshield to exit the vehicle. He crawled up the embankment to the roadway where he was met by the construction workers and the Nebraska City EMS Division.

Valquier told Otoe County sheriff’s deputies that he fell asleep.
