Dorothy Lenore Meyer, 89, of Nebraska City died at Nebraska Medical Center – Omaha, on Sept. 25, 2009. She was born May 2, 1920 at Salem, Neb., to Clarence and Edith (Lambert) Sheeley. She married Adolph Meyer March 29, 1942 at Falls City.
She is survived by sons Adolph Philip Meyer and wife Darlene of Omaha, Tim Meyer and wife Cathy of Nebraska City, Fred Meyer and wife Marsha of Omaha, and Kenny Meyer of Nebraska City; daughters Miriam Meyer of Plattsmouth, Gretchen Cooper and husband John of Lincoln, Ruth Shaw and husband Wayne of Parsons, Kan., and Mary Porter and husband Bob of Wellington, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded by her husband Nov. 27, 2008, brother Richard Sheeley, sisters Muriel Cromwell and Marjorie Allen, grandson Michael Lee Meyer and great granddaughter, Brittnie Ludwig.
She formerly lived in California, Arkansas, Arizona, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa, moving to Nebraska City in 1998.
She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and teacher. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) in Nebraska City. She loved reading, writing, singing and gardening.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Maple Cemetery in Salem, Neb.
Honorary pallbearers are Nathaniel Shaw, David Shaw, Amy Shaw, April Santiago, Rebekah Porter and Jennifer Cooper.
Active pallbearers are Matthew Meyer, Robert Meyer, Donald Porter, Ben Porter, Brad Ludwig, Brian Ludwig and Larry Ludwig.
A memorial fund has been established.
Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Monday,Sept. 28, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with the family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m.
