Waunita M. (Freel) Wichman, 78, of Nebraska City, died at Golden Living Center in Nebraska City Sept. 22, 2009. She was born Nov. 19, 1930 in Plattsmouth to Albert L. and Delia A. (Boetel) Freel.
She married Norman Wichman Dec. 3, 1950 at Nebraska City.

She is survived by son Darrell Wichman and wife Doreen; daughters Wanda Straw and Diane Soriano and husband Zeke, all of Nebraska City, and Susan Baker and husband Phil of Riverton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; sisters Hilda Harms of Glenwood, Iowa, and Addie Kerkow of Falls City; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded by her husband, sisters Leota Clary and Doris Freel, brother Richard Freel and wife Hazel, step granddaughter Jennifer Baker, and son-in-law Harry Straw.

Waunita had lived in Nebraska City since 1931. She worked at Morton House Kitchens, Theresa’s Restaurant and Embers Steakhouse. She was a member of First Christian Church – Disciples of Christ in Nebraska City. She enjoyed bingo, reading, soap operas and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Marshall Funeral Chapel in Nebraska City with Rev. Rodger Good officiating.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday at Marshall Funeral Chapel with the family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m.

Burial will be at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.

Honorary pallbearers are Melissa, Stacy, Andrea, Tanya, Cindy and Mary.

Active pallbearers are Bobby Powell, Danny Powell, Tommy Powell, Gregory Bolton, Randy Bolton and Darrell Ray Wichman.

Memorials are suggested to Asera Care Hospice.
